The last Saturday race before the majority of X-boats head over to Cowes provided a good blow to test breaking strains and iron out any wrinkles before measuring ourselves against 87 other competitors. None truer than on Dolphin where the spinnaker pole downhaul snapped early in the first run followed by very wrinkled brows after a very poor tide decision by the helm on the next windward leg! The race course took us out as far as Flying Fish, a mark we don't see that much of during the year but which may well be in use next week. More good Cowes Week practice. 'Rule 4' was applied one mark before course 81 was due, finishing us all at Cutter. We returned back to the mouth of the river to watch the real treat of a Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster Bomber flying overhead. Spectacular!
